12 Days

12 more days and I am having this baby!  It is time to do a final update.

I have to say overall this pregnancy has been easier than my first, but I wouldn't call it easy.  Pregnancy is not for wimps!

It has been easier because I have felt better.  I didn't have morning sickness as long or as severe.  I haven't gained as much weight.  I have gained about 30 pounds this time around.  I gained about 45 pounds with Grant.  I also am not retaining as much water.  My feet get puffy if I do a lot (like move), but my hands and face are not nearly as bad.  I can still wear my wedding ring.  Whoop whoop!

I don't know if she is smaller than Grant or just in a different position, but this little girl is not making me as uncomfortable as Grant did.  I am interested to see how much she weighs.

Then the not so easy parts.  I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes in March.  I was hoping I had just failed the first glucose test because I did it in the middle of the day.  I had eaten a little bit before and didn't go into the test fasting.  I had to do the 3 hour glucose test, which is about the meanest thing to make a pregnant woman go through, and failed.

I have gotten used to the diet for the most part.  I haven't had to take any additional medications because I have been able to maintain my blood sugars by watching my carbs and sugars.  It isn't easy or fun!  I hate it and I hope it goes away after I have this baby.

I also have had this funny rash on my face.  I hate it!  It is aggravated by dairy products, which really puts a kink in finding food at times.  The diabetes nurse suggested high protein foods like string cheese, cottage cheese, and Greek yogurt.  Yeah, not going to work.  It is frustrating.

I have been really nervous about having this baby.  The nervousness has over powered the excitement until just the last few days.  I am getting more uncomfortable every day and it has changed my mental state.  I am ALMOST to the point where I am ready to just get this baby out of here!  I think it is really interesting how that works.  For almost the whole pregnancy I was uncomfortable or not myself, but not miserable.  The thought have sleepless nights, a c-section, and everything else didn't out weigh the discomfort of being pregnant.  There is something about the last few weeks that changes a mother's mind.

Personally I think it was part of the Lord's plan because let's be honest labor and child birth are not fun. No one would just willingly go through any of it for kicks and giggles.  However, when you are packing around a 30 pound bowling ball, can't eat, can't sleep, etc. you get to the point where you would do ANYTHING to get the baby out.

January 9, 2013

On January 9, 2013 we got to look at our beautiful little girl for nearly 30 minutes!  We got loads of pictures and a couple of video clips.  We are so excited to do the whole pink thing!
Grant came with us to the ultrasound.  I don't think the tech appreciated his presence, but he was so thrilled to see his little sister.

We actually knew this baby was a she before January 9th.  In December, I had a bad case of pregnant brain and showed up on the wrong day for my check up.  I showed up at the right time, but a day late.  I felt terrible.  I am not one to space my appointments and I know OB offices are busy.  I was lucky because normally my doctor isn't in the office on Fridays.  This Friday he was in the office as the doctor on call and agreed to see me. My doctor was very sympathetic and he could tell I felt awful about messing up my appointment time.  He tried to cheer me up, but I still felt so stupid.  Finally, he said, "hey I have a few minutes before I go to surgery. If we go look at your baby will that cheer you up?"  Of course I agreed!

The first thing we saw were the baby's legs and almost instantly he said, "this baby is a girl."  I felt bad that Kyle couldn't be there, but so excited to know a month early!

I have to say my pregnant brain has cost us two entire crock pot meals ruined.  I put the stuff in the pot and then forget to turn it on.  I have locked my keys in the car twice.  I have messed up my work schedule more times than I can count.  I have forgot to set my alarm clock and slept through the whole first hour of church.  But, for the first time my pregnant brain benefited me!

I am so grateful to have such an understanding doctor.  He has really been wonderful!  I am grateful to Lise for referring Dr. Lowder to me.  Thank you!

2012: A Summary

I have seen many people on blogs and face book express their gratitude for 2012 to be over and excited for 2013!  I have to say the Maybury's 2012 wasn't terrible, but it didn't all go as we had planned.  Then again when does life ever go as planned.  We have definitely  had some major trials and some wonderful blessings this past year.  We have definitely seen the Lord's hand in our lives.

1.  In February Grant turned 4!  He had been looking forward to this birthday with great anticipation.  Granny and Evy were able to come up and celebrate with us.  It was so much fun!  Grant is such a wonderful boy!

2. We sold our house in May!  We had no idea it would take 14 months to sell the thing.  It was a huge financial obstacle we gladly washed our hands of.  We felt very blessed because the house sold for $400 more than what we owed.  We obviously didn't make a profit off the thing, but we also didn't have to foreclose on the house.

3.  We sold our Dodge Ram truck.  In order to pay for close to $10,000 in closing costs on the house we had to sell Kyle's baby.  It was a tough decision for him and he really hated to see this sweet ride go.  It was a major blessing to be able to almost instantly make $10,000.  In the end we came out smelling like a rose on this deal.  We sold it for exactly what we paid in 2008.  We basically drove this truck for free for 4 years!  If only we could have made that much off the house!

4. In July, Kyle turned the big 30!  He was not looking forward to this birthday at all.  Now that it is past he is ok with it.  The birthday has inspired him to start being a little more healthy!

5.  We were able to see two new temples open this year.  The Brigham City temple opened in September.  We feel close to this temple because it was announced while we were still living in Northern Utah.  If we hadn't moved we would still be a part of the Brigham City temple district.  It is a beautiful building and we are so happy for our old friends and neighbors.
In November, we were able to attend the Boise, ID temple open house.  The temple had been closed since July 2010 for remodeling.  It is so exciting to have the temple open again!

6.  We are pregnant!  We have struggled with infertility for almost 2 years now.  It has been a major trial of our faith.  I literally have to pinch myself every morning to remind myself I am pregnant.
This picture of our baby was taken in October at our first ultrasound.  I was so nervous to go to this first ultrasound for fear the doctor would tell me we were having another miscarriage.  I burst into tears when the doctor told me everything looked wonderful!  We are so blessed!

Birthdays, better health, temples, financial freedom, and a new baby...in our books 2012 was a huge success!

It's Official!

We have waited for just over 15 months and it is finally official!  We have sold our house!  It has been the most anxiety causing event in our life EVER!  We worried for 14 months that the house would never even sale.  Then when we finally got an offer we worried that the house wouldn't appraise for as much as the offer.  Once it appraised we still worried that the buyers would back out.  Luckily, everything worked out quite smoothly!  The title company recorded the sale and put the title in the new owners name on Thursday.  We are so thrilled!  I know it has been a few weeks since my last post, but we have had a lot on our minds lately!

My Goal: So Close

I made a goal towards the end of my to run 100 miles before my birthday.  I fell short 4.7 miles. I am a little bummed but considering that I had to keep converting miles to kilometers and did some minor miscalculations I am still pretty proud.  I have to say I really tried.

Sunday Thought On Monday

I have loved our new ward!  I still don't know a lot of members, but it comes with time.  The point of this post is the thoughts I want to share with you from our Relief Society and Priesthood meeting!  AMAZING!

The lesson was on marriage and what we can do to make our marriage better.  The first two quotes were great.  They came from a talk by President Monson.  The line I loved said,

"we should be fiercely loyal"

I love the word fiercely isn't it great?  I think it is so important to be 100% loyal to our spouse.  Then you add the word fierce in there and WOW!

The second quote I believe President Monson was quoting Elder Talmage, but I could be wrong.  The point is:

Choose your love,
Love your choice.

I love this.  I can't even think of the words to explain how neat this thought is.

I can tell you this.  I thought I was in love with Kyle when we decided to get married.  We have now been married for 7 1/2 years and we now love each even more.  Marriage isn't easy and it takes a lot of work.  The point is that I can focus on the bad things and let the negativity drive our marriage apart.  Instead I try to love Kyle for all the good moments and qualities.  I choose to love the man I chose to marry.  I love Kyle so much.

I hope if you read this you will be a little inspired to try a little harder to love the choice you made!

(I know I am.)

Inside Job

I hadn't heard of the movie Inside Job (IJ)until I had watched part of the Oscar's this year.  I briefly heard about IJ during the Oscar's but later found out what the movie is all about.

I think I can speak for the majority of the American, and even global population how awful the recession has been.  Millions of people lost their homes and millions of people world wide lost their jobs.  Thirteen million people in China alone lost their jobs.  I saw it all happen, but I  didn't understand why or how it happened.  Well, to sum it up in one word: GREED

IJ explains in detail how the recession we are currently in started back in the late 90's in Iceland.  I definitely can't explain it as well as Matt Damon does in IJ, but basically some big banking firms got a little greedy and made themselves a lot of money.

J. P. Morgan and Goldman-Sachs were two of multiple banking companies involved.   The banks borrowed billions of dollars, bet against the money they borrowed and then sold the money they didn't own.  It caused the whole market to crash around the globe.  The men and women involved deny they knew what they were doing.  In fact, some of them served as major financial advisors with President Clinton, President Bush, and President Reagan.  They passed laws to make it easier for these big banks to make more money.

No one has stopped them.  Nations around the globe know what they have done.  These men and women are still employed and earning MILLIONS while many place in the world hover around a 10% unemployment rate.

The major individuals involved with the recession have not lost their jobs.  They haven't lost $1.  They haven't had  to short sale their homes.  The major businesses are even more wealthy and more powerful than before.

IJ will make most middle class citizens mad.  It is irritating and frustrating to know how much we have lost and how much they have gained.

It is my opinion that there will be another recession.  I think the world will recover to some extent from the recession of 2008.  However, because there are still no changes and the same people and companies are still in power I predict this will all happen again.  I don't want it too, but I think it will.

If you read this post I challenge you to watch Inside Job and tell me what you think.

Small Things Made Large

I thoroughly enjoyed our Relief Society lesson on Sunday.  Our bishop is completely inspired.  I will try and give a quick summary.

Bishop Ahlquist started out by talking about how we all have ups and downs in life.  There are days, minutes, weeks, or months when we feel like we can't make it one more day.  We feel discouraged and hopeless at these points in our lives.  When we feel like giving up it is Satan telling us we can't make it any more.  Satan wants us to feel discouraged and helpless.  He wants us to give up. It is up to us to get up and keep going.  It is our choice to keep going and moving forward.

Our Bishop wanted us to know how much our Heavenly Father loves us.  He doesn't want us to give up.  We are never alone.

Then the Bishop led into why daily life gets us down.  Sometimes it is not events at all, but rather just daily life.  We all get frustrated and overwhelmed with our spouses, kids, jobs, coworkers, friends, callings, work, school, etc.  There is always something we are worried about.  We often have unexpected events and tasks that come up that interrupt our routines.  It is how we deal with these interruptions and changes that make the difference.

Bishop Ahlquist further explained that when we focus on these little interruptions and changes they become big and unbearable.  I love this concept.  I thought of how this concept applies to my own life.
Kyle and I have a good marriage.  We get along most of the time.  However, there are times when we don't agree.  There are times when we get on each others nerves.  It is usually never anything big, but it can seem big.  I find when I focus on the little irritating things Kyle does I go crazy.  I am not happy with our marriage at all. I am impatient and rude to my dear husband.  This doesn't go over very well.  Kyle then becomes irritated with me and our home is not a happy place.

When I don't focus on the small irritating things but rather the good things our marriage is 200 times better.  Instead I stay positive and focus on the good things Kyle does.  It is choice I have to make every day.  I have to choose which things I am going to focus on.  I can choose to be grateful Kyle cooked dinner last night or I can choose to nag about having to do the dishes.  I choose to be grateful for Kyle putting Grant to bed or complain about the clothes he didn't put away.

I appreciated Bishop Ahlquist for reminding me to stay positive and not focus on the negative things in life.  It isn't always easy to find the positive in every situation.  But I know that whatever I focus on becomes large and surmountable.  I hope you kind find the positive in everything every day!  It is up to each of us to choose the positive in every situation.

2010: A Fair Performance

I know it is almost the end of January and while everyone else's New Year Resolutions are almost forgotten I am just getting started.  (I don't know which is better.)

My first goal for 2010 were to start some family history work.  I did get an account on the family history website.  I did index a few names, actually a couple hundred names.  And that is where it stops.  I really tried to get some of my own history done, but my family members weren't very helpful.  I will continue to index for now.

Holding FHE every night has been a joke.  I have read the Book of Mormon with Grant a few times.  I do try to talk about the principles of the gospel when ever I get a chance.  The FHE thing is hard right now because I can't even get Kyle to come to church more than once every three months.  It is super hard to implement spiritual things at home with no support.  I will keep trying.

I have tried to share my testimony more often.  I have a neighbor I have become pretty good friends with.  I  finally mustered the courage to ask her to church.  She hasn't come yet, but I have invited her a lot.

I ran a 10K this year!  The Peach Days 10K was a beast.  I did pretty good.  I ran it in exactly 60 minutes.  I was super excited.  The whole last 2 miles are up hill.  I was pretty proud of myself for accomplishing such a big goal.

The last goal I had was to get a website up and running.  Well, there is a website.  It is up and running.  It just sucks.  I don't like how it turned out.  I don't find it very functional.  I don't know what to do with it now except quit.  I hate to quit because I put a lot of time and effort into the thing.  I just think it is awful.

Now,  I haven't been sure what I want to do this year, which is why I haven't posted my goals up for the year.  Our lives are up in the air right now.   The future at ATK is still uncertain.  Kyle has looked for jobs in Colorado, Idaho, and Utah.  It is still possible we could move to Idaho, but nothing is for sure yet.   I have thought about changing my job, but I am not exactly sure what I want to do if I did change.  I would like to do a little traveling this year, but again Kyle's job is really uncertain right now and so we are not sure if we should spend a lot of money traveling.

I can make a few personal goals that will be attainable no matter what happens.

My goals for 2011
1. I would like to read the Book of Mormon again.  Cover to cover.
2. Continue to work out 3 times a week.
3. Clean out my Slumber Party stock.  I hope to make money off of at least some of it.

The Zippy Decade

Who knows what they will call this decade, but I can't believe everything that has happened!  (I will do the last year in another post.)

2000:
I graduated from High School.
I was able to tour Europe with my mom and Grandma.  One of the sweetest vacations of my entire life.
The beginning of a long road of college education as a freshman at USU.  The biggest accomplishment being I survived ComdDe 2500 with Vicki Simonsmeier- the lady from h-e- double hockey stick.

2001
I moved in with 5 girls at the beginning of the school year.  It was a real personal and spiritual challenge living with 3 of them.  I really grew up a lot.
After a few months of looking I couldn't find a job anywhere in Logan and started a 3 year career at Convergys.

2002
I wished my dear sweet boyfriend the best of luck on his mission.
I witnessed the Winter Olympic Games in our own back yard.
I moved in with my dear friends Jill and Leslie

2003
I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Communication Disorders.
I somehow managed to survive and entire summer living in Ogden and driving to Logan for work by 5 AM.  So, yes I left Ogden at about 345 AM.
I decided it wasn't worth driving to Logan every day all summer so I found a summer apartment and had a great time.
Started graduate school.
I welcomed my dear missionary home.

2004
I went through the temple for myself on March 17.  It was one of the most memorable days of my life.
Kyle and I were married on May 20.
I got my first real job at the school district.  I worked at Lomond View Elementary doing speech language therapy.  I loved it there.
I completed my course work for my Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology.

2005
We bought our Chevy Tahoe together.
We got our first cell phones.
Graduated with my Master's Degree with 12 other girls and 1 boy.  The 14 of us were the best of friends.  I still keep in touch with most of them.

2006
We bought our 1998 Toyota Camry after the head gasket blew in our old one.
We went on our first cruise.  It was wonderful.  I can't wait to go again.
We visited Lee, Kyle's brother, on his mission in Puerto Rico.
I got a new job in Logan working for Early Intervention through USU.
Erin, my sister, married Isaac in the Salt Lake Temple.

2007
Vacationed in Las Vegas for a week with Kyle's best friend and his wife.  It was a blast.
Kyle graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Kyle gets his first job with ATK Launch Systems.
We bought our first home together.
Found out we were pregnant with a baby boy.
My brother, Trace, married Sierra in the Salt Lake Temple.

2008
Our baby boy was born on February 24.
I some how managed working full time and having a brand new baby.
Kyle started his Master's Degree program with the University of Utah.
Grant, my father in law, passed away suddenly on December 8.

2009
We went to San Diego as a family.
Chris, Kyle's younger brother, graduated from High School.
Our baby turned 18 months and can go to nursery.

2010
We bought our new Dodge Ram Mega Cab truck.
Kyle graduated from the University of Utah with a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
We went on a weekend get away to Park City for the weekend.

I can't believe everything that has happened in the last 10 years.  I have graduated 3 times, moved 9 times, got married, had a baby, bought one house and 3 cars, laughed so hard I cried, cried so hard I laughed, and most of all loved almost every single minute of it.  I am looking forward to the next 10 years.  Bring it on!

Our Own March Madness

This month has been filled with crazy madness.  I have actually tried to spend a little more time with my family and so the blogging has been put on the back burner for a while.  Grant had a burst eardrum earlier this month.  It never really went away and so we are on our second round of antibiotics.  Next Monday he is having a little surgery on his belly button.  Kyle has a big comprehensive exit exam on Monday as well.  He has done nothing but study for that all week.  I have tried to enjoy some of the nice weather we have had lately.  It is crazy how fast time flies.  I will get some pictures up soon.  I promise.

The Proof is in the Picture!

So, here is the proof the TV really is broken! It looks worse when you turn it on! Sad, so sad!
